Wind and Storm Damage Repair in Burlington

Shingles across the lawn, a tree through the fence, water coming in where it never has before. When a storm rolls off Lake Ontario or over the escarpment, we tarp and board up the same day, find the water the wind drove in, and repair the structure properly. Based right here on North Service Road.

Storm Damage in Burlington: The Weather Earns Its Reputation

Sitting between the escarpment and the lake, Burlington catches wind from both directions. Southwesterlies come off Lake Ontario with nothing to slow them down, and squall lines accelerate over the escarpment edge into Aldershot, Tyandaga and Brant Hills. The May 2022 derecho that tore across southern Ontario, the ice storms, the microbursts that take one street’s trees and skip the next: as the local emergency property restoration company in Burlington, our crews have cleaned up after all of it.

The mature neighbourhoods take the worst of it. Roseland, Shoreacres, Elizabeth Gardens and Aldershot have fifty to eighty year old tree canopies over fifty to eighty year old roofs, and that combination is exactly what wind exploits.

What We Repair After a Storm

Everything the wind touched, from the emergency hours through the finished repair.

Roofs and shingles

Lifted and missing shingles, torn flashing, damaged vents and skylights. We tarp first to stop the water, then repair or re-roof the affected sections properly. Not sure what to do right now? Start with our guide on what to do after roof storm damage. In winter, ice dam roof leaks are their own beast, and we handle those too.

Trees on structures

A tree on a roof, garage or fence is removed in coordination with shoring so the structure does not shift when the weight comes off. Debris hauled, structure assessed, repairs scoped.

Siding, soffit and eavestrough

Wind peels siding and fascia and packs eavestroughs with debris that causes the next leak. We repair the envelope so the building sheds water the way it should.

Windows and glass

Broken glass boarded immediately, openings sealed against weather, replacement units measured and installed as part of the same file.

Fences, decks and outbuildings

The stuff insurers call detached structures. It belongs on the same claim, and we scope it in so it does not get forgotten.

Power surge and outage losses

Sump pumps that stopped in the outage, freezers that thawed, surge damaged equipment. We document these consequential losses for your claim while we are on site.

Hidden Storm Damage: What You See Is Rarely the Whole Story

Wind driven rain does not need a hole. It gets pushed up under shingles, through strained flashing and around window frames, then soaks attic insulation and runs down inside wall cavities. Everything looks fine from the driveway. Three weeks later there is a ceiling stain, and three months later there is mold.

This is why we bring moisture meters and thermal imaging to every storm call, not just a ladder. We wrote up how moisture meters and thermal imaging find hidden water damage if you’re curious how it works. We trace where the water actually went, dry the assemblies that took it, and document the whole picture with an iGuide 3D scan so your claim covers the real damage, not just the visible shingles. And because insurers treat the two very differently, it helps to know the difference between storm damage and plumbing damage before the adjuster asks.

If a storm has already left you with a wet ceiling or a flooded basement, those pages cover the water side in detail. On a storm file we handle it all together.

Storm Damage Repair FAQs

How fast can you tarp my roof in Burlington?

Usually the same day, often within a few hours, since we roll out from North Service Road. After a storm that’s hammered the whole region, we triage: open roofs and active leaks jump the line, cosmetic damage waits a bit. Either way you’ll get a real arrival time from us, not a hopeful one.

Is storm damage covered by insurance in Ontario?

Wind, hail and falling trees, yes, that’s standard on most Ontario policies, and so is water that came in through an opening the wind created. Where it gets tricky is water that seeped in at ground level or backed up through the drains. Those live under separate overland water and sewer backup endorsements. We document exactly which one happened at your place, because that wording decides the claim.

A tree came down but did not hit anything. Who pays?

This one surprises people. If the tree didn’t damage anything, removal often isn’t covered, or it’s capped at a small limit, and debris rules vary by policy. If it landed on a structure or it’s blocking your driveway, that’s usually a different story. Send us a photo and we’ll give you a straight answer before anyone spends a dollar.

Should I call my insurer or you first?

If water’s actively coming in, call us first. Your policy actually requires you to prevent further damage, and that’s exactly what emergency tarping is, so it’s claimable. Then open the claim. We’ll hand you the photos and documentation the adjuster needs.

The roof looks fine from the ground. Should I still get it checked?

After a serious blow, yes. Lifted shingles settle back down and hide, flashing strains without tearing, and the first evidence is often a ceiling stain months later, when the claim gets harder to tie back to the storm. The inspection is quick and gives you documentation dated to the event. Cheap insurance on your insurance, basically.

Do you handle the repair or just the emergency work?

Both, start to finish, and that’s the point. Most emergency board up outfits hand you to a roofer, who hands you to a drywaller who’s never met either of them. We’re an HCRA licensed builder, so the tarping, drying, roofing, siding, drywall and paint all run as one job under one project manager.

What does storm damage repair cost?

Emergency tarping and board up usually land in the hundreds to low thousands, depending on size and how hard your roof is to get at. Full repairs are all over the map because scope is, which is why everything gets a written Xactimate estimate before repair work starts. On an insured loss, you typically pay your deductible and the insurer covers the approved rest.

Can you match my existing shingles and siding?

We’ll get as close as today’s products allow, and when a discontinued product genuinely can’t be matched, we document that for your insurer. Matching disputes come up on half the storm claims in Ontario, and adjusters have standard ways of settling them. You’ll know your options before anything gets ordered.

What should I photograph before cleanup?

Everything, from a safe distance. All four sides of the house, debris where it landed, closeups of the damage, and any room with water in it. Don’t delete the blurry ones either. We add professional documentation when we arrive, but your timestamped photos from the day of the storm are gold.

Do you help prevent damage from the next storm?

While we’re up there anyway, we’ll flag the cheap fixes worth doing: that maple hanging over the roof line, flashing on its last legs, the fence section that’s one gust from gone, sump and downspout issues. What you do with the list is your call, but you’ll have it in writing.
